UK Degree, Diploma and Transcript Attestation for the UAE
What Is UK Degree Attestation for the UAE?
UK degree, diploma and transcript attestation for the UAE confirms your UK qualification’s authenticity so UAE employers, universities and government bodies can accept it. The verified route runs through a UK notary or the issuing body, an FCDO apostille, UAE Embassy London’s attestation service, and finally UAE MOFA. We manage every stage and tell you exactly what applies to your degree before we start. For other UK documents, see our UK Certificate Attestation page.
How Do You Attest a UK Degree for the UAE?
- Certified true copy, if needed. A degree certificate is not a public-registry document, so a UK notary public or solicitor certifies a true copy before the next step, unless the university itself issues a certified copy.
- FCDO apostille. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s Legalisation Office apostilles the certified document. The standard paper apostille costs £45 and usually takes up to 25 working days; faster next-day (£40) and restricted urgent (£100) services are limited to registered UK businesses.
- UAE Embassy London attestation. Apply with UAE Pass and name the United Kingdom as the country of issuance. A MOFA-approved provider collects your original apostilled document; the Embassy’s own page describes this digital service as covering both the Embassy and UAE MOFA in one application.
- Receive the attested document. A digitally attested copy is emailed to you and the original is returned by courier. Verify any UAE MOFA attestation at verify.mofa.gov.ae.
MOFA’s application asks you to name the destination country, and that choice cannot be changed after submission, so we confirm it with you before we apply.
Does the UAE Accept a UK Apostille on Its Own?
No. The FCDO apostille is the UK’s own international authentication step — it comes before UAE Embassy London’s attestation, not instead of it. UAE embassy pages state that bundled apostilles are not accepted and each document needs its own apostille. No official UAE page states whether an e-Apostille is accepted in place of the £45 paper apostille, so we always obtain the standard paper version for UAE-bound degrees to avoid a rejected application. See our apostille services page for documents going the other way.
Which UK Education Documents Does This Cover?
- Degree certificates: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
- Diplomas and higher diplomas.
- Academic transcripts and mark sheets.
For a UK diploma specifically, see our UK diploma certificate attestation guide. For the full process and timeline, see UK Degree Certificate Attestation for UAE: Full Process & Timeline and how much UK degree attestation costs. If your university or employer has asked for British Council verification first, read British Council Attestation for UAE: What It Means and What You Actually Need before you start the FCDO step.
What Documents and Details Does This Need?
- The original degree certificate. Do not laminate it: laminated documents cannot be attested.
- Your notarized or university-certified true copy, if the degree itself is not a public-registry document.
- A copy of your passport and Emirates ID.
- An English-language document generally needs no translation for UAE MOFA; check with the receiving UAE authority in case they ask for Arabic (see legal translation in the UAE).
- The name of the UAE employer, university or authority that will receive the degree.
What Causes a UK Degree Attestation to Be Rejected?
- The wrong destination country selected in the MOFA application, which cannot be changed after submission.
- A laminated or altered document.
- An e-Apostille submitted where the UAE side expects the original paper version.
- A bundled apostille covering more than one document.
- Skipping the FCDO apostille or the UAE Embassy London attestation step.
A rejected MOFA application cannot be reopened. You have to correct the problem and apply again, which is why we check every detail before we submit.
UK Degree Attestation the Other Way: UAE to UK
If you hold a UAE-issued degree and need to use it in the UK, there is no UK legalisation step on offer. GOV.UK states that British embassies "cannot legalise documents of any kind", and the FCDO’s Legalisation Office does not legalise documents issued outside the UK. The only official UAE-side step is UAE MOFA attestation of the degree. After that, the UK university, employer or UK ENIC (the national agency that compares international qualifications) sets its own requirement for accepting the document, so confirm directly with them what they need.
How Long Does UK Degree Attestation Take?
Only the published steps have an official time. The FCDO’s standard paper apostille usually takes up to 25 working days (its faster next-day and restricted-urgent services are for registered UK businesses only). UAE Embassy London’s own page states 2 to 3 working days for the digital route, or up to 5 working days by post (the page is undated). UAE MOFA’s own courier processing inside the UAE is 1 to 3 business days. The notarization and university-verification steps vary by case, so we do not promise one combined number for the whole chain.
If you have a deadline, tell us on the first message. See our urgent attestation page, or request a quote for your degree.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I attest my UK degree for the UAE?
In the usual chain, a UK notary or the issuing university certifies a true copy, the FCDO apostilles it, UAE Embassy London attests it digitally (covering UAE MOFA in the same application), and the attested copy is returned to you. We confirm the exact chain for your degree before we start.
Is an apostille enough for a UK degree to be used in the UAE?
No. The FCDO apostille is the UK’s own authentication step and comes before UAE Embassy London’s attestation, not instead of it. UAE embassies do not accept a bundled apostille in place of their own attestation.
Does the UAE accept an e-Apostille for a UK degree?
No official UAE page states that it does. We obtain the standard £45 paper apostille for UAE-bound degrees to avoid a rejected application.
Do I need separate UAE MOFA attestation after UAE Embassy London?
UAE Embassy London’s own page describes its digital attestation service as covering both the Embassy and UAE MOFA within one application.
Can a UAE-issued degree be used in the UK without UK embassy legalization?
Yes. The UK does not legalise documents issued outside the UK, and British embassies abroad do not legalise documents of any kind. UAE MOFA attestation is the only official UAE-side step; check with the UK recipient what they need after that.
Do you need the original degree?
Yes. Use the original, unlaminated certificate. Laminated documents cannot be attested, and the UAE Embassy’s courier route needs the physical document.
How long does UK degree attestation take?
The FCDO apostille usually takes up to 25 working days, UAE Embassy London’s digital attestation is stated as 2 to 3 working days (postal up to 5), and UAE MOFA’s own courier step inside the UAE is 1 to 3 business days. We give a combined estimate once we have seen your degree.
Is UK degree attestation a one-time process?
Generally yes. Once a degree has completed the full chain, it does not need to be repeated for that document. A receiving authority can still ask for a recently issued document, so check what they expect.
What does UK degree attestation cost?
The cost depends on the number of documents, whether a certified copy or translation is needed, and the route used, so we quote after seeing your degree. Contact us on WhatsApp for a free quote.
Do I have to visit the FCDO or UAE Embassy London myself?
No. Attest Dubai manages the FCDO apostille and UAE Embassy London steps on your behalf, whether your degree is already in the UAE or still in the UK, with free pickup and delivery anywhere in the UAE.
