India Degree, Diploma and Marksheet Attestation for the UAE
Why Indian Degrees Need Attestation for the UAE
Attesting an Indian degree, diploma or marksheet for UAE use means the state education or home department verifies it, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirms that verification, and the UAE Embassy New Delhi then digitally attests it together with UAE MOFA in one application. Attest Dubai manages the full chain and the reverse direction for UAE-issued degrees headed to India. See our Indian Certificate Attestation page for other document types.
What Is Indian Degree Attestation for the UAE?
Indian degree attestation for the UAE is the process that makes a degree, diploma or marksheet issued in India accepted by employers, universities and government authorities in the UAE. In the standard chain, the issuing state’s education or home department verifies the document first, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) attests it next, and the UAE Embassy New Delhi then digitally attests it together with UAE MOFA in one application.
Attest Dubai manages the UAE side of this chain and can guide you or your family in India through the state and MEA steps too. For the document itself, see our Indian Certificate Attestation page.
How Do I Attest an Indian Degree Certificate for the UAE?
The verified chain for Indian-issued degrees, diplomas and transcripts has three stages: first, the state education department or HRD-type authority (or the issuing university, for some records) verifies the document; second, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) attests it; third, the UAE Embassy New Delhi’s digital attestation service processes it, and this one UAE Pass application covers both the Embassy’s attestation and UAE MOFA together.
For academic records issued by CBSE from 2014 onward, part of this may run through MEA’s e-Sanad digital platform. We’ll confirm which route applies to your specific certificate before we start.
What Does the UAE Embassy's Digital Attestation Involve?
Once your degree has its state/HRD verification and MEA attestation, the UAE Embassy New Delhi’s digital service takes over: an approved courier (typically VFS or BLS) collects your original document, usually within about 24 hours of the request, and the attested document is typically returned within 24 to 48 hours. The Embassy verifies attested documents using a reference number and the date of issue, rather than a QR code.
Neither the Embassy’s page nor MEA publishes a fee for this specific step, so we give you a clear quote before any document leaves your hands.
Does an MEA Apostille Replace This Process?
No. India has been a member of the Hague Apostille Convention since 2005, and MEA issues an apostille for documents headed to other member countries. The UAE is not a party to that Convention (confirmed on the HCCH’s own status table, last updated 30 June 2026), so an MEA apostille on its own is not the right route for UAE use.
If your degree already carries an apostille from a different, unrelated application, it does not replace the state/HRD → MEA → UAE Embassy chain above — follow that chain for UAE purposes.
What Documents Do I Need?
For the standard route, you will generally need:
- Your original degree certificate, diploma or marksheet (the UAE side of this chain works from physical originals, not photocopies or laminated documents)
- Proof that the state education/HRD step has been completed, where that is a separate certificate or stamp
- A copy of your passport
- An authorization letter or power of attorney if someone else — family, an agent, or Attest Dubai — is submitting the document on your behalf
We check your documents before submission so a missing earlier step doesn’t cause a rejection later in the chain.
How Do I Attest a UAE-Issued Degree for Use in India?
For a degree, diploma or certificate issued by a UAE university or institution and needed in India, the Indian Embassy, Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General of India, Dubai handle the Indian side of attestation, through their outsourced service provider. For UAE-issued documents coming from a UAE organisation (such as a salary certificate), UAE MOFA attestation is required first; the same is commonly expected for other UAE-issued documents even where it isn’t stated as explicitly.
The Embassy in Abu Dhabi has previously offered a same-day service option for some documents; contact us and we’ll confirm current timelines and the right office for your document before you start.
Who Needs This?
This service is for:
- UAE residents applying for a job, further study, or professional licensing in India with an Indian-issued degree
- Graduates of UAE universities who need their qualification recognised in India
- Employers and universities in India verifying a candidate’s or applicant’s UAE qualification
- Families coordinating the India-side steps for a student or relative based abroad
How Long Does It Take and What Does It Cost?
The full chain runs across two countries, so the total time depends on how quickly your state/HRD step and MEA attestation are completed in India before the document even reaches the UAE Embassy New Delhi’s digital service (itself typically a matter of days once it is in hand, see above). Neither MEA nor the UAE Embassy publishes a combined total processing time, and we have not found an official, current fee schedule for this specific chain.
Tell us your situation and we’ll give you a clear, itemised quote and a realistic timeline before you commit to anything.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to attest my Indian degree before working in the UAE?
In most cases, yes — if a UAE employer, government authority, or university asks for it. Your degree needs state/HRD verification in India, MEA attestation, and then UAE Embassy New Delhi digital attestation (which also covers UAE MOFA) before it is accepted.
Is an MEA apostille enough for UAE use?
No. India is a Hague Apostille Convention member, but the UAE is not a party to that Convention, so an apostille alone is not accepted for UAE use. Follow the state/HRD → MEA → UAE Embassy New Delhi chain instead.
Can I submit a photocopy of my degree certificate?
No. The UAE side of this process works from the physical original document; photocopies and laminated documents are not accepted.
How long does the whole process take?
It depends mainly on how quickly the state/HRD step and MEA attestation are completed in India. The UAE Embassy New Delhi’s own digital step is usually handled within a few business days once the document reaches it, but no official source publishes a combined total for the whole chain.
Can Attest Dubai handle the India-side steps for me?
We coordinate the full chain, including guiding you or your family in India through the state/HRD and MEA steps, and we handle the UAE Embassy New Delhi digital attestation and any further UAE-side needs.
What if my degree was issued by CBSE?
Some CBSE-issued academic records from 2014 onward can run through MEA’s e-Sanad digital platform as part of the process. We’ll confirm whether your certificate qualifies before starting.
I have a UAE degree and need it attested for use in India — where do I go?
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General of India, Dubai (through their outsourced attestation service provider) handle this. UAE-issued documents from a UAE organisation often need UAE MOFA attestation first.
Do I need a certified translation of my degree?
If your degree isn’t in English, a certified Arabic or English translation is generally needed alongside attestation. We provide certified translation as part of our service.
Does a diploma or marksheet follow the same process as a degree certificate?
Yes. Diplomas, transcripts and marksheets generally follow the same state/HRD → MEA → UAE Embassy New Delhi chain as degree certificates.
Why would an attestation application get rejected?
The most common reasons are skipping an earlier step (such as state/HRD verification), submitting a non-original or altered document, or a document that isn’t clearly legible. We check documents before submission to avoid this.
