An Egyptian-issued degree, diploma, or transcript generally needs attestation by Egypt’s own Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration and Egyptians Abroad before the UAE Embassy, Cairo can digitally attest it alongside UAE MOFA in one application. The step before that — university or Ministry of Higher Education verification — is not yet confirmed on any official page our research has been able to read, so this guide states only what is verified and flags the rest plainly.
How Is an Egyptian Degree Certificate Attested for Use in the UAE?
The confirmed part of the chain, from the UAE Embassy, Cairo’s own attestation-information page, runs:
- Attestation by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration and Egyptians Abroad.
- Digital attestation through the UAE Embassy, Cairo — one UAE Pass application that covers the Embassy and UAE MOFA together, with the original document required and most requests handled in 2-3 business days once a document reaches this stage.
That is the end of the chain we can confirm from an official UAE government source. See our guide on what certificate attestation means for how this kind of chain works generally, and our step-by-step degree attestation guide for the equivalent process for other countries.
What Happens Before the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Step?
This is the part we cannot yet confirm. A non-official source (a law firm’s own blog post) describes a university → Supreme Councils of Universities (authentication department) → Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sequence for Egyptian university certificates, but it cites no law or government source, so we are not treating it as verified fact. Egypt’s own Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation-procedure pages have not returned usable content to our research tools on repeated attempts (most recently 31 October 2026), so we cannot independently confirm which university office, ministry department, or notary step comes first.
If you know which office issued your university’s verification stamp in the past, that is the safest starting point — or request a free quote and we will confirm the current requirement before you begin.
How Does the UAE Embassy in Cairo Attest Egyptian Degree Certificates?
The UAE Embassy, Cairo runs the same digital-attestation template already confirmed on five other UAE missions (London, Riyadh, Jeddah, New Delhi and Canberra, plus Beirut): the applicant logs into UAE Pass, selects Egypt as the country of issuance, a MOFA-approved provider collects the original document, and the digitally attested copy is issued covering both the Embassy and UAE MOFA in one step. No fee figure is published on the page, and the page itself carries no date.
Does Egypt's Absence From the Apostille Convention Matter?
Egypt does not appear on the HCCH Apostille Convention status table (last updated 30 June 2026), and the UAE itself is not a member of the Convention either. With both countries outside it, there is no apostille shortcut in either direction — full consular legalization applies, which is exactly the Egyptian MFA → UAE Embassy Cairo chain described above.
Can a UAE-Issued Degree Certificate Be Attested for Use in Egypt?
The UAE side of this direction is confirmed: a UAE-issued degree certificate is first attested by UAE MOFA, the same as any other UAE-issued document. Whether, or how, the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Egyptian Consulate General in Dubai then legalizes it for use in Egypt is not confirmed on any official page we have found — only a consulate directory listing, used cautiously, suggests the Dubai consulate may not run a general document-attestation service at all. We state this as a gap, not as a confirmed answer either way.
See our Egypt certificate attestation hub page and our guide on Egypt certificate attestation for the UAE for how this same gap applies across other Egyptian document types.
What Should I Do If My University's Verification Process Isn't Listed Anywhere Official?
Tell us the university, the year you graduated, and whether you already hold any verification stamp from a previous use of the certificate. We will check the current requirement against official Egyptian and UAE sources before quoting a process, rather than assume the generic chain applies to your specific case.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Egyptian degree certificate need attestation to be used in the UAE?
Yes. Like any foreign-issued educational document, it needs to go through an authentication chain before UAE authorities and institutions will accept it.
What is the confirmed chain for attesting an Egyptian degree certificate for UAE use?
Attestation by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration and Egyptians Abroad, then digital attestation through the UAE Embassy, Cairo, which also covers UAE MOFA in the same application.
Is there an official university-level verification step before the Egyptian MFA?
Almost certainly, but no official Egyptian government page we have been able to read confirms exactly what it is or which office handles it — a non-official law-firm source describes one possible sequence, but we have not verified it.
Does Egypt being outside the Hague Apostille Convention affect this?
Yes. Egypt does not appear on the HCCH status table, and neither does the UAE, so there is no apostille shortcut in either direction — full consular legalization applies.
Can a UAE-issued degree certificate be attested for use in Egypt?
UAE MOFA attestation is the confirmed UAE-side step. No official page we have found confirms how the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi or Consulate General in Dubai then legalizes it on the Egyptian side.
How long does Egyptian degree attestation take?
Not centrally published for the Egyptian-side steps. The UAE Embassy, Cairo’s own digital attestation page states most requests are handled in 2-3 business days once a document reaches that stage.
